Commission a Portrait
A commissioned portrait is a timeless heirloom. I will be happy to paint children, teenagers, adults, pets, or honor one's lifework. The process offers an exciting and enjoyable experience for both the artist and the sitter. The end result is a work of art which combines your original vision for the piece with the artist's unique style and execution.
Commission process
The process will start with a consultation over email or phone. This first step allows for me to get a clear vision for the painting, we can move forward by scheduling a time and place to meet for the sitting.
I will start with a color study (approx. 8x10") from life which usually takes from 2-3 hours. During this session I will take my own reference photos. I prefer to have at least one life session with the sitter in order to get a feel for their personality and unique characteristics.
I can also do a painting from photography, but live sittings are strongly encouraged, as they produce the best results and are then completely original, and a fun, once-in-a-lifetime experience for the sitter. After our initial sitting and photo shoot, I create a mock-up of the portrait composition for your approval and send it to you via email. Please note that the size originally agreed upon may be adjusted slightly for compositional purposes after the photo session. Once the image references and pose have been decided on, I begin the painting, using the finest paints and materials to ensure that the portrait will be of heirloom quality.
Time to finish a painting
Commissioned portraits generally take 3-6 months to complete depending on their complexity.

For all commissions, my pricing will vary based on the size of the portrait. Please contact me to discuss the project size and corresponding pricing.
Head and Shoulders...............16" x 20" - 22" x 28"
Half-View with Hands............24" x 30" - 24" x 36"
Three-Quarter Figure.............30" x 40" - 36" x 48"
Full Figure..............................40" x 60 or larger
The price is normally provided for one subject only. Additional subjects require an additional fee, to be discussed on a per project basis.
I have my clients sign a standard portrait commission contract and submit a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total agreed-upon fee.
